What is real estate, and how does buying a home work?

A home is more than a building. People own land, rights, and things that may stay with the property when it is sold. Here, we explain all of that one small idea at a time.

You do not need to know any real-estate words before you start. We explain the idea first, then show you the English word professionals use for it.

Start here

First understand what is happening. Then learn the real-estate word.

Every chapter begins with something familiar: a house, a room, a light fixture, a sale, or a person helping with a transaction. Only after the idea makes sense do we introduce the English terms used in real estate.
