Why can two similar homes have very different values?

How property ownership and home transactions work

1 · Start with the idea

Property cannot be moved to a better neighborhood, and no two parcels occupy the same exact location. That makes real estate local and unique in a way many other things are not.

2 · Picture it

Two houses may have the same number of bedrooms and almost the same size, but one may be near a park and the other beside a noisy highway. The buildings are similar; the locations are not.

3 · Now learn the English words

immobilitythe fact that land cannot be moved
uniquenessthe fact that no two parcels have the exact same location

4 · Why this matters

This explains why real estate value is not a simple price tag lookup and why local information matters so much.

5 · Check yourself

Why can location change a home's value even when the house itself looks similar?

Show answer

Because land is immovable and each location is unique, so surroundings and access can affect value.
